We have hardwoods surrounding a carpeted area in our family room.
Is it possible to pull up the carpet and install hardwood flooring that matches the existing floor? Builders frequently
save money on new construction by installing carpet in a portion of the home, rather than expensive hardwoods. In most
cases, we can test the existing wood to determine whether it is red or white oak or another type of wood.
Then, we pull up planks that border the carpeted area and lace new planks into the existing wood. The
new flooring and the existing flooring is all sanded and stained the same color. If there is a difference in the color
of the wood, adjustments will be made in the staining process.
Our floors
are stained with a dark red stain. We want a lighter, more golden color on the floors. Is it possible to change
to a lighter color stain? Having yor hardwood floors refinished
means sanding the floors down to the bare wood. The wood can then be stained and finished with the application of polyurethane.
You may go from light to dark or vice-versa.
What type of finish would you recommend
for an active family with kids and dogs? We recommend a polyurethane
with a satin or matte finish. A satin finish means that the floor has a luster, not a highly reflective glossy finish that
shows every scratch and scuff.
