Green Floors!

Eco Friendly Flooring

HARDWOOD FLOORING IS RENEWABLE:
Federal reglations require hardwood growers to employ sustainable forestry management.
This means for every hardwood tree that is harvested, multiple new trees are planted.

HARDWOOD FLOORING IS REUSABLE:webassets/recycle.jpg
Hardwood flooring can be sanded and refinished, creating
a fresh new look on an old floor.
Solid hardwood flooring can last more than 100 years
Carpet, vinyl and tile go out of style and need replacement.

HARDWOOD FLOORING IS RECYCLEABLE:
Reclaimed wood from demolished structures is used as flooring.
Reclaimed wood includes wood that was not originally used as flooring such as railroad ties and structural wood beams.  These recovered from other structures and milled into hardwood flooring.
Hardwood flooring planks removed from flooring during renovations can be reused.

webassets/Bona-Atomic-PDC-B.jpgThe Bona ECS (Environmental Choice System) process uses the new portable ATOMIC® 110 DUST CONTAINMENT SYSTEM which helps maintain good indoor air quality by preventing the infiltration and permeation of dust into drapery, furniture, cabinets, air ducts and air conditioning units during the sanding process. Hardwood floor sanding used to be an extremely dusty job hazardous to the contractor and a cleanup headache for the homeowner. Today, with the new Atomic® 110 DUST CONTAINMENT SYSTEM, hardwood floor sanding is a cleaner, healthier and faster process than ever before.

BONA WATERBORNE POLYURETHANE FINISHES

Bona’s waterborne polyurethane finishes provide a hard, clear coating for high-traffic residential andwebassets/bonafinishes.jpg commercial floors. Bona finishes are available only through certified Bona installers. Bona’s waterborne polyurethanes are Greenguard certified as part of their “Environmental Choice” hardwood floor-finishing system, which includes the company’s dustless sanding technology, fillers, sealers, waterborne polyurethanes, and floor care products.

  • Mega is a one-part oxygen-crosslinked polyurethane containing 150 g/l volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that is less expensive than Bona's two-part systems but is durable enough for high-traffic use.
  • Traffic (180 g/l VOC) is a scuff-resistant two-part system (resin and hardener) that has the durability of moisture-cure urethanes, according to Bona, without the hazardous by-products.
  • Naturale (210 g/l VOC) has the same durability as Traffic but after curing has the appearance of natural wood.
  • Strong (235 g/l) is a two-part system that uses a resin and crosslinker to provide durability and added chemical resistance. These products should be used with Bona's Bonaseal or DTS sealers. webassets/bonafinishes.jpg

Organic Gases (Volatile Organic Compounds - VOCs)

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. VOCs are emitted by a wide array of products numbering in the thousands. Examples include: paints and lacquers, paint strippers, cleaning supplies, pesticides, building materials and furnishings, office equipment such as copiers and printers, correction fluids and carbonless copy paper, graphics and craft materials including glues and adhesives, permanent markers, and photographic solutions.

Proper ventilation is recommend with the use of any product that emits VOCs.  Exposure to these compounds for prolonged periods of time may cause illness depending on the compound and the amount of exposure.
