We nail down
prefinished hardwood or unfinished hardwood over underlayment placed on top of a plywood subfloor. Prefinished wood
is ready to walk on immediately after it is installed. We can move large furniture from side to side during installation.
Unfinished wood is left in place to acclimate for one week. Then, it is filled with wood filler, sanded and finished.
During acclimation, your floor will be UGLY! Do not be alarmed by gaps between planks and variations in the heights
of the wood. Planks may touch at one end and have a gap at the other end. The milling process is not precise. That's
why filler is used.

Repair: replace damaged wood
|
|
|
When flooring
damage is too deep to be sanded out, the strips or planks need to be replaced. We are experienced at blending new wood
into existing wood to make the repair undetectable after refinishing.

Refinishing
is the process of sanding the finish off of the floor, revealing bare wood, and the application of new stain or sealer and
polyurethane. Darker stain colors - Jacobbean, Dark Walnut, Ebony and Red Mahoghany take longer to apply. require
extra prep and take and extra day. They cost more than standard colors.

|
|
|
The work area
must be completely empty. We will move the large items for an additional price. These pieces must be empty. You
should move all of the small furnishings, strip bed linens, and empty all of the large pieces of furniture. We do not
move computers or electronics.

Our Bona Atomic
110 Dust Containment System is the most technologically advanced system for control of sanding dust. There is no system that
is 100% dust free. Bona's HEPA filtration system meets the new EPA standards for lead abatement. Clients with
asthma and other respiratory ailments are able to have their floors refinished without inducing illness.
|
|
|
|

|
Our Bona sanding
system is far superior all other floor sanders. The sanders weigh over 300 lbs, to even out waves in the floor. These
heavy sanders do bounce or skip on the floor like light weight sanders. We begin sanding with a course grit and finish
with a smooth grit.

|
Slight
variations which occur in milling hardwoods mean that there are gaps between strips and planks of hardwood flooring. This
is especially evident immediately when a floor is installed and right after a floor is sanded. We apply pulp based wood
filler before the final sanding to minimize the appearance of these gaps.

All of the
equipment we use are part of the Bona Kemi Atomic 110 Dust Containment System. It captures more than 97% of dust particles
created by sanding. This is the only system that is GreenGuard certified for indoor air quality. Bona's HEPA filtration
meets the EPA's new lead abatement criteria. Our clients with asthma, severe allergies and other respiratory ailments tell
us they experienced no distress during their refinishing process. Our retail clients like the fact that they can have
their shops refinished without dust covering their inventory.

You may select
a natural finish, with a clear sealer and polyurethane or choose a stain color from either the Minwax, for oil base or Bona,
for water base, color chart. We will apply the colors you like onto your floor for you to make a decision.

Stain applied
by hand results in blotchy and uneven color. We apply stain with cotton padding attached to a buffing machine NOT by hand.
This process is faster and produces the best results for a uniform staining of the entire floor.

|
|
Polyurethane
is applied after the application of stain and sealer or sealer alone, for a natural finish. It protects the wood from
daily wear and tear. One coat of oil base polyurethane is applied each day. Waterbourne polyurethane coats can
be applied every two to three hours. Polyurethane is available in satin, for a rich luster, semi-gloss, for a bit more shine
and high gloss for the shiniest finish. Satin is the most popular finish due to its ability to mask scratches and scuffs.
